Artist Statement

As a small child I would nap in a huge clay vessel, while my father worked in the pottery studio. I remember looking up from below and seeing the pottery wheel spin. The scent of the clay was earth mixed with rain. I was mesmerized by colors so beautifully complex swirling with layers. My life has always been an abundance of sensory experiences where art plays a prominent role. Working in a bronze casting foundry from a young age I was accompanied by the aroma of wax, the feeling of clay, the volcanic heat of 2000 degree melting metal, and crucibles of fiery lava pouring into new forms. So many spices of life bringing awareness to the powerful forces of nature's elements and constantly changing states. This consciousness has greatly impacted my relationship to creating and experiencing art. To me, art is a way to communicate a concept, celebrate a culture, and add energy to enrich an environment. It is an opportunity to experience life from perspectives of transformational beauty.
